Letter from D.O.S. to you School

My name is Troy Brooks. I am a member of the Rotary Club of Clovis, and the District Exchange Officer for District 5230 for 2017/18.

To all of you currently involved in Rotary Youth Exchange as a Club, a Counselor or Y.E.O., or a Host Family, let me express my sincere gratitude for your sacrifice and efforts, without which this life-changing program could not continue. I hope that based on your prior or current experience with our students, you will continue your participation in the program for 2018/19.

We are currently accepting applications from high school students wishing to participate in the program for 2018/19. The application deadline for students wishing to be considered is October 15, 2017. Students will be interviewed and selected in the first week of December for 2017/and students will depart on their exchange in August or September of 2018.

For those clubs that are not currently participating in the program, I would like to encourage you to engage or re-engage in the program for 2018/19. We offer high school students in our communities the opportunity to spend a year abroad, to become fluent in another language, to become immersed in another culture, and by doing so, to gain confidence and life experience that will benefit them for the remainder of their lives regardless of their educational or career path. The program is a one-for-one program, meaning we send one student abroad for each student that we take in. The students will spend the entire school year in their host country, living with host families. Last year, approximately 8,000 students participated in this program world-wide.

In addition to the life-changing benefits for the students, we provide families (Rotarian and Non-Rotarian) the opportunity to host a student in their home for part of the year. By hosting, you would have the opportunity to be a part of the growth and development of our Inbound students, gain insight into another culture, and gain life-long friendships with students and in some cases, their families from around the world.

The program is run by a wonderful group of Rotarian volunteers located throughout our Rotary district. A member of our team members would be more than happy to speak with you about the program and how you or your club can become involved. In addition, we would be honored to provide a presentation to your club or board about the program.

I am hopeful that you or your club will consider participating in the program, and by doing so, offer a student the chance to experience the best year of their lives, so far, and to change the legacy of your Rotary club or your family.

If I can answer any questions, please contact me by clicking on the "Contac Us" tab above and email me.

I ask that you sincerely consider the benefits of participating in the program for yourselves, your clubs, and for a student who has a dream to change the world.
